Joe Allen, PO/EMT-B, EMT-Instructor
Joe has been involved with EMS since 1998. He is currently certified as an EMT. He was a volunteer in Woodbridge for over 8 years. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and is currently pursuing a Master in Public Administration, both from Rutgers University. Joe is currently the Training Coordinator for Rutgers University EMS in New Brunswick. He also teaches part time for a variety of other EMS agencies. Joe is also a big hockey fan; specifically he is a New York Rangers fan.
Grace Bylina, EMT-B
Grace joined the SCESTA in 1995 as an EMS Educator and has been involved in emergency services since 1985. Grace is an active volunteer member of the Manville First Aid Squad. Grace holds instructor certifications in CPR/AED and Basic First Aid, and is certified in PHTLS.
Mike Donahue, FF/EMT-B
Barbara Dunn, EMT-B
Barbara has been involved with emergency services since 1993. She holds certifications from the EMS side as well as the fire side, including, but not limited to, vehicle extrication, dive rescue, trench rescue, high angle, collapse, repelling, survival training, marine and mountain rescue, BTLS, PHTLS, PEPP, ICS, and paramedic assistant among others over her 13 years of experience. She has been teaching at Somerset County Emergency Services Training Academy for 3 years. Barbara has been a member of the Hillsborough Emergency Medical Services, where she held an officer’s position for 2 years, since 1993 as well as a member of Hillsborough Township Volunteer Fire Company #1-Flagtown. Barbara holds affiliated memberships with the American Red Cross in Disaster Management, as well as Armed Forces Services, Habitat for Humanity and other agencies outside of New Jersey. She has a college degree and is currently attending Rider University, working toward a graduate degree in secondary education in history with an emphasize on the American South from pre Civil War to present. Barbara works full time in the Treasury department of Educational Testing Service and per diem at Hillsborough Emergency Medical Services Corp. as a paid EMT servicing the emergency needs of the township of Hillsborough. She is married with one child and currently resides in Manville.
Alex Eristavi, FF/EMT-B
Alex has been a career EMT and Firefighter since 1991, with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital EMS and the New Brunswick Fire Department.
Julie Froat, EMT-B, EMT-Instructor
Julie has been in the EMS field for the last 8 years, working in both the career and volunteer setting. She has been an EMS Educator for the past 8 years, certified as a NJ EMT Instructor for the last 5½ years.
Judy Hanlon, EMT-B, EMT-Instructor
Judy joined the SCESTA in 1991 and has been involved in emergency services since 1981. Judy is an active member and past officer of the Bradley Gardens First Aid & Rescue Squad. Judy holds instructor certifications for EMT-B, ARC CPR/AED, and the VFIS Emergency Response Driving Course, and is also certified in PHTLS.
Rich De Lisi, FF/EMT-B
Rich has over 13 years of experience in Emergency Services as a firefighter, EMT, and educator. Currently, he is the ESU Training Officer for Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory and is a recently elected Commissioner in Franklin Twp. Fire District #1. He is a former Chief of the Millstone Valley Fire Department and is now the department Safety Officer. Rich was the EMS Training Coordinator and the Decon Team Leader for Saint Michael's Medical Center. His prior EMS experience includes working as the Safety and Training Officer for a private ambulance company and the Training Center Coordinator for Hackettstown Regional Medical Center.
Christopher Newcomb, FF/EMT-B
Chris Newcomb began his professional career in 1993 working full time for Plainfield BLS through a federal grant program. In 1996, Chris began working for RWJUH-SPUH EMS, for whom he continues to work today. In 2002, Chris earned his way into the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, and is currently assigned to a NJ boat station performing Search and Rescue as a NREMT. In 2003, Chris began working for Rutgers Emergency Services. He began his career with the City of New Brunswick Fire Department in 2006. Chris teaches for both SCESTA and RWJ-EMS Education. He completed his training as a NJ DCA Fire Instructor Level 1 this year, and is working toward his certification as a NJ EMT-B Instructor. Chris looks forward to completing his double major at Rutgers University in the next year.
Mike Pante, MICP, EMT-Instructor
Michael is a NJ Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic for the last 12 years and an EMT-Paramedic in Pennsylvania for 15. He has been teaching EMT initial and continuing education courses since 1991 and has taught programs in 40 of the 50 US states. He has written several articles in EMS magazines as well as authoring chapters in EMT, Paramedic, Pediatric, and Geriatric textbooks. He currently works full time at Somerset Medical Center.
Robert Piparo, FF/EMT-B
Pip started as a volunteer EMT with the North Brunswick First Aid and Rescue Squad in 1995. He worked full time at RWJUH as EMT and Medical Communicator for 6 years, 3 years per diem. He worked for Monroe BLS, Rutgers University BLS, and MONOC at the PNC Bank Arts Center. Currently a career firefighter/emt with the City of New Brunswick. He has been teaching at SCESTA for 4 years.
Timothy Ring, EMT-B
Timothy joined the SCESTA in 2007. He has been involved in Emergency Medical Services since 1987, having served in various leadership positions within the Martinsville Rescue Squad, including two years as Captain and two years as President. In addition to being a life member of the Martinsville Rescue Squad, Timothy currently serves as Sergeant for the Green Knoll Rescue Squad, as well as being an instructor with the St. Peter's BLS Education Department. Timothy also holds instructor certifications for Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator II - Ambulance and Trauma, Triage & Transport.
Cal Salter, EMT-B
Cal joined Manville First Aid & Rescue Squad in 1980. In 1985 he started teaching CPR and First Aid. He began teaching at the SCESTA in 1990 when it opened. He holds Instructor certifications in the American Red Cross for First Responder, CPR/FPR, and First Aid. Cal is also an Instructor trainer for CPR and First Aid, CEVO II, ARC oxygen administration, and Blood Bourne Pathogens. He is certified in dive rescue & recovery, swift water rescue, swift water boat operations, extrication, low angle rescue, plus several other certifications. Cal is also the Chief of the Manville First Aid & Rescue Squad and Chairman of the NJSFAC 5th District.
Thomas Schweitzer, EMT-B
Tom has been involved with emergency services for 17 years both as professional and volunteer. Additionally he has worked in a corporate setting as an educator and disaster recovery coordinator. Tom looks forward to working with a group of dedicated and talented professionals and educating the next generation of EMS providers.
Neil Thorn, FF/MICP
Neil has been working in Emergency Medicine since 1996 and teaching emergency response training, including Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR, since 2000. He has worked with numerous BLS, Fire, and ALS agencies in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. His training includes certifications as a Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic, Fire Fighter 1, Vehicle Rescue Technician, High Angel Rope Rescue, HazMat, ICS, CBERN Medical Response, Medical Response to the Large Scale Incident, and a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science Web Development and Healthcare from Juniata College.
Barbara Vaning, EMT-B
Barbara has been involved in EMS starting as a 5 point member, progressing into an EMT in the early 80’s. Barbara’s experience has included working on numerous EMS organizations in Middlesex, Union, and Mercer counties. Barbara has been the training officer in a number of the organizations with which she has been a member. She has diversified herself in other instructional specialties including Rad Seniors, Rad Women, RadKids, CPR, Childbirth, Dr. Dad, and Safesitter. Barbara is also a Child Passenger Safety Technician. Barbara earned her Master of Health Administration.
Douglas Vornlocker, EMT-B
Doug joined the SCESTA in 2006 and has been involved in emergency services since 1999. In 2002, Doug began working as an Investigator in the Environmental Enforcement Unit of the Somerset County Health Department. In 2008, he took on the role of Deputy Coordinator in the Somerset County Office of Emergency Management. In addition, Doug is a Lieutenant, Radiation Officer, Training Officer, and Hazardous Materials Specialist for the Somerset County Hazardous Materials Response Team. Also, Doug holds certifications in ICS, NIMS, Flood/Swiftwater Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, and Diving. Doug is a graduate of the FEMA Emergency Management Institute and Rutgers University, holding a Bachelors Degree in Biology.
