The course is derived from the National Search and Rescue (NASAR) "Fundamentals of Search and Rescue" course, but is modified to meet the needs of the searchers of central New Jersey. An ICS-100 manual is distributed pre-registration to those not yet ICS certified. Students are expected to provide their own supplies for the course, including a pack with necessary equipment and supplies, a compass, and clothing appropriate for the season and changes of weather. A list will be provided upon registration. The course is expected to be either a full weekend (including late Friday evening) or consecutive Sat-Sun-Sat. Content includes: an overview of the search process, including terms and definitions; Incident Command System level 100, including certification, as needed; Personal outdoor equipment, clothing, and SAR ready pack; Navigation and travel skills; Clue consciousness and preserving evidence; Lost person behavior; Tracking; and Communications. |
