This course uses ICS-100 as the basis for integrating the search function, and recognized texts to develop the search planning process. The 2-day course focuses on the planning elements of the search function, both before and during searches. The course introduces key concepts which, when properly applied, maximize the efficiency of the search. The student is taken through the pre-plan process, victim profiling, determining best search strategies using available resources and, documentation. Though some topics overlap with SCISAR Command, the classroom exercises are planning intensive rather than managerial. Content includes: an overview of the search process, including terms and definitions; Pre-planning the development of an operational pre-plan; Planning data/searching data; Interview and investigation; Lost person behavior and victim profiling; Impact of weather and terrain on victim and searchers; Theory of search probabilities (area, detection and cumulative); Use of maps and search segmentation; SAR resources; and documentation. |
